Esme worshipping her Dyno toy…
Exactly a month ago we got Esme. I dont know what we got ourselves into…
For some odd reason the last few months I have been missing our Little McCay. I have random thoughts of her; while driving- on my way to work or coming back home from a long day. There were flashbacks- some images of her last few days; but mostly of the happy ones all five of us shared.
I don’t know if it was out of longingness, or perhaps the universe has its own way of aligning things, but out of the ordinary my friend Ann sent me a link to Southeast Volusia Animal Society of a dog ready for adoption. I was busy at work when I received the message, I didn’t really paid attention to it until towards the end of my shift. When I did, the first that caught me was the photo of the puppy- she is so much identical with our McCay- only she’s a charcoal; and McCay was hazel brown. I sent the link to Bob- with no expectation but to see if his reaction was same as mine too.
Little did I know Bob had made a phone call to the shelter: investigating and trying to find out her story. And when I got home, he asked me if I wanted to see the dog the following day in the shelter. I said sure; and so we did the next day. We brought Nikki, our eldest dog, the queen of the house- if she approve of her. After all, she (and Charles) will be with her in most of the time.
slowly integrating with one another. One day at a time.
And the meet and greet finally happened. The walk side by side was civil; no signs of aggression from Esme. Then we proceeded to the enclosure; Nikki was off leash; and Esme was being held by one of the volunteers- eager to really play with Nikki.
I didn’t know what exactly happened after the enclosure meet, the next I remembered was we were arranging the paper works and we were driving home with her.
Esme enjoying our lanai. Her introduction to the pool was not good as she fell the first day. She hasn’t gone in the water since; we will at some point.
Seven months ago we lost McCay in less than 24 hours. Last month we gained another member of our pack within 24 hours of learning about her from the adoption link sent by our friend. Oddly, she was seven months old, born a week after our McCay passed. Do you believe in reincarnation?
Life lately. The first week was a bit challenging for Esme and us (and our two dogs) being mostly lived and wandered the streets and at the shelter, she basically had zero vocabulary. But since then, she has learned a lot of commands and picked up almost a dozen of words since living with us. She’s still a work in progress- specially with Charles whom she picks on. And with the high energy she has; she zooms so fast and attempts to rough house with Nikki- who does not always want to be part of. But we are all learning to integrate.
Two days ago Esme turned 8 months, and she just attended her first puppy school today. We’ll see how it goes😉.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please say HI to our Esme… short for Esmeralda.🤣🙂🐶🐶
and when she’s tired; she is tired.
one of the photos that she resembles McCay.
